Chinese cobalt salts refineries seek metal as feed on widening price gap between cobalt metal and salts

Some Chinese cobalt salts refineries and battery material producers are using cobalt metal as feed to produce cobalt salts due to the widening price gap between the two materials, sources told Metal Bulletin this week.

“It is both practical and profitable for cobalt salts producers to use metal as feed, given that cobalt salts prices have continued to perform strongly while the cobalt metal price has retreated,” a cobalt analyst said. 
Tight supply and increased demand are driving up cobalt salts prices in China.
