Chinese zinc smelters jointly announce 540,000 tpy capacity maintenance, time unspecified

China’s largest zinc smelters will bring about maintenance procedures affecting 540,000 tonnes of annualised capacity over an unspecified period of time according to a statement published through state-broadcaster Antaike and independently verified by Metal Bulletin.

Major smelters including Hanzhong Zinc, Shannxi Shanglou, Dongling Fengxiang, Yuguang Gold & Lead, silver, Huludao and Bayannaoer Zijin met on Monday March 13 in Xi’an to discuss co-operative measures aimed at affecting “extremely unfair deformities in processing fee levels”, according to the statement. The move comes after China’s largest zinc smelter Zhuzhou started an indefinite maintenance period for 100,000 tonnes of smelting capacity earlier in the month.
