SE Asia billet prices start to fall on softening Chinese market

Import prices for steel billet in Southeast Asia have dropped over the past week as Chinese material re-emerged more widely in the market at competitive offer prices.

The cheaper offers from China came as prices in the key billet hub of Tangshan dropped by as much as 260 yuan ($38) per tonne over the past week, to as low as 3,050 yuan ($444) per tonne including VAT on Monday March 28. This encouraged some Chinese traders and mills to look for overseas buyers.
