BHP Billiton suspends operations at Queensland coal mines
BHP Billiton has temporarily suspended its operations at some of its coal mines in Queensland, Australia, amid a cyclone in the region.
Operations have been suspended at Goonyella Riverside, Peak Downs, Daunia, South Walker Creek and Poitrel, the miner told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday March 28 when asked if Cyclone Debbie had any effect on its coal mines in the Australian state.
Operations at Broadmeadow, Caval Ridge and Saraji continue, but at reduced levels, it added.
These mines produced over 8.5 million tonnes of coal in the December quarter.
