Indian import scrap prices fall on weak global markets

Prices for ferrous scrap arriving in India in containers dropped this week under pressure from soft global scrap markets, sources told Metal Bulletin on Friday March 30.

Turkish import scrap prices were considered to have hit the market bottom over the past weekend, before they nudged up on the sales of US-origin cargoes on Monday.
Indian import shredded scrap prices fell last week following Turkey’s dramatic price drop, but prices for Indian import HMS 1&2 (80:20) material held steady. The opposite was true this week, with HMS 1&2 (80:20) prices falling by $5-10 per tonne.
