SE Asia billet import prices set to drop below $400 cfr on lower offers from China

Import prices for steel billet in Southeast Asia are widely expected to drop below $400 per tonne cfr soon, as Chinese traders keep lowering their offer prices to induce firm bids.

The last time prices were lower than $400 per tonne cfr was in early February – but at that time, the most competitive offers were coming from Turkey and CIS countries.
Metal Bulletin’s price assessment for billet imports in Southeast Asia was $400-420 per tonne cfr for the week ending Monday April 17, down $15 per tonne from $415-435 per tonne cfr the preceding week.
