EU long steel mills focus on sales within the union

European rebar and wire rod producers have largely been focusing on sales within the EU recently, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday April 19.

The factors driving this preference were good demand, and the chance to achieve higher prices because imports were limited by anti-dumping measures, some of the sources claimed.
Others, however, cited the absence of business with Algeria. In that country, which is a key destination for EU long steel exports, there has been no news yet about the issuing of import licences and quotas, although the deadline for licence applications was set for April 18.
