European stainless steel market quiet before May surcharge falls

European stainless steel base prices remained unchanged this week in a quiet market ahead of a drop in May’s alloy surcharges, sources said on Friday April 21.

Metal Bulletin’s weekly base price assessment for 2mm, grade-304 cold rolled (CR) stainless sheet was €1,140-1,165 ($1,224-1,250) per tonne delivered in Northern Europe on Friday. The weekly price assessment for grade-316 CR stainless sheet remained at €1,465-1,485 ($1,572-1,594) per tonne delivered in Europe on the same day, while the price for grade-304 bright bar was steady at €970-1,000 ($1,041-1,073) per tonne delivered.
