EU stainless surcharges for June fall sharply on nickel drop

Alloy surcharges in Europe for June deliveries of grade-304 cold rolled (CR) stainless steel sheet have fallen by €108-116 ($121-130) per tonne month-on-month, Metal Bulletin has heard.

This came after the average London Metal Exchange three-month official nickel bid/offer spread between April 21 and May 20 – the period used by producers to calculate June’s surcharge values – fell to $9,254/9,261 per tonne.

This represented a sharp decrease of $665-666 per tonne in the average nickel price from the calculation for May’s surcharge values, which was $9,919/9,927...
