SE Asia billet buyers turn to China again as short-selling resumes

Interest in Chinese steel billet has started to pick up again in Southeast Asia after an absence of around three weeks, as weakness in the Tangshan market encourages some traders to start short-selling again.

Metal Bulletin’s assessment of prices for billet imports in Southeast Asia was $410-420 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday June 5, down $5 per tonne from $415-425 per tonne cfr in the preceding week.
Only one booking has been so far confirmed in the region, at $420 per tonne cfr Manila, in the Philippines, local market participants told Metal Bulletin.
