Slab import market in Asia softens further amid weak season

Import prices for slab in Asia have slipped below $400 per tonne cfr with market sentiment remaining bearish among buyers due to a seasonal slowdown in the region.

Renewed competition among major slab suppliers and the volatility in China’s flat steel prices have also been cited as factors influencing buying activity in Asia, according to market participants.
Metal Bulletin’s assessment of slab import prices in Southeast Asia and East Asia was $395-405 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday June 12, widening downwards by $5 per tonne from $400-405 per tonne cfr in the preceding week.
