EU plate prices under pressure from competitive imports, lower slab costs

Prices for domestic heavy steel plate in Europe have been under pressure from declining slab prices and competitive imports over the past seven days, sources told Metal Bulletin.

Metal Bulletin’s domestic price assessment for grade-S235JR heavy steel plate in Southern Europe stood unchanged over the week at €520-530 ($584-595) per tonne ex-works on Wednesday June 14.
The assessment reflects deals and offers heard in the market.
“During past two weeks plate tonnages tonnages sold [in Italy]were not significant, but the [domestic] prices stood unchanged,” a trader said.
