Midrex Technologies will design, engineer and procure equipment for the 1.60 million tpy plant, Cliffs said on Thursday June 15.
Cliffs has openly discussed developing an HBI plant since 2014.
"[This] announcement marks a very important strategic milestone for Cliffs, as we begin to implement our plans be the sole producer of high-quality HBI for the [electric-arc furnace (EAF)] steel market in the Great Lakes Region,” Cliffs chairman, president and ceo Lourenco Goncalves said.
