CIS slab export prices drop amid stronger competition, weaker demand

Stronger competition in the global slab market in recent weeks has made CIS producers reduce their export offer prices, sources told Metal Bulletin on Monday June 19.

Recent slab offers from CIS mills were heard around $390 per tonne fob Black Sea, against $400 per tonne fob a week earlier.
But the decrease was not sufficient to spur buying activity as offers from Brazil and Iran were coming at even lower prices.

Considering the freight cost of $15-20 per tonne for Italy, the price for CIS-origin material would be equivalent...
