China’s stainless steel prices surge on anticipated shortage

China’s domestic stainless steel prices rose sharply over the past week as trading picked up amid rumours of a supply drop.

Metal Bulletin’s assessment of prices for benchmark 304 stainless cold rolled coil was 13,000-13,600 yuan ($1,902-1,990) per tonne including VAT in the major market of Wuxi for the week ended Thursday June 22, up 1,100-1,200 yuan ($161-176) per tonne from the preceding week’s 11,800-12,500 yuan ($1,727-1,829) per tonne.
