SSS: Mills should break out of auto 'steel box'

US producers of automotive steel might need to break away from conventional manufacturing standards and consolidate grades across the industry to push into new frontiers and stay relevant, according to one Nucor executive.

“We within the steel industry have been too confined by the ‘steel box’,” Nucor market development and product applications manager Dean Kanelos told delegates at the Steel Survival Strategies XXXII conference in New York on June 26.
