US flat steel import market static, awaiting Section 232 decision

Prices for imports of flat-rolled steel products into the USA have held largely steady as buying activity remains at a virtual standstill ahead of the Section 232 investigation results, according to market participants.

Section 232 is a procedure that allows the US president to impose import duties on products if he believes that they create a risk to his country’s national security. Metal Bulletin sister title AMM’s price assessment for imported hot rolled coil (HRC) was unchanged on Thursday June 29 at $540-560 per ton, and import light-gauge galvanized steel prices were also flat at $845-885 per ton.
