EU flat stainless steel base prices fall in ‘nervous market’

European base prices for flat stainless steel products fell sharply over the past week, as mills and distributors looked to destock ahead of two months of alloy surcharge price drops, sources told Metal Bulletin on Friday June 30.

Metal Bulletin’s weekly base price assessment for 2mm, grade-304 cold-rolled stainless sheet fell €20-40 ($23-46) per tonne to €1,060-1,100 ($1,209-1,255) per tonne delivered in Northern Europe on June 30, down from €1,100-1,120 ($1,255-1,278) per tonne last week.

The alloy surcharge for July deliveries of 2mm grade-304 CR stainless steel sheet – compiled by Metal Bulletin based on data published by Outokumpu, Acerinox and Aperam – fell by €52-62 ($59-71) per tonne month-on-month, down to €1,131-1,190 ($1,290-1,358)...
