Southeast Asia buyers still seek billet outside China as prices rise

Customers in Southeast Asia continued to book billet outside China in early July as offers from that country have risen significantly and made prices unworkable, sources have told Metal Bulletin.

Chinese suppliers reduced the volumes of export billet and increased the prices, in the wake of strong domestic demand.
This has driven prices for non-China-origin material in the region upward.
Metal Bulletin’s price assessment for billet imports in Southeast Asia was $440-450 per tonne cfr for the week ending Monday July 10, up by $10-15 per tonne from $430-435 per tonne cfr in the previous seven days.
