Northern European mills target price rises for coil products

Northern European steelmakers expect to increase their official flat steel offers later this week due to higher raw materials costs and rising global coil prices, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday July 12.

The rumours about the price rises have been circulating in the market over the past two weeks, however, no official offer increases from major mills has been reported in the region. “There were no official announcements made, but bigger mills are tough in their negotiations,” a Netherlands based trader said. The price rise is supported by combination of higher raw mater costs, recovery of international coil market prices and positive effects from anti-dumping measures in Europe, according to market sources. The European Commission (EC) is expected to announce definitive duties on imports of HRC from Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, Iran and Serbia ahead of the original deadline of October 6 this year, according to...
