FOCUS: Chinese aluminium cuts in Shandong could set precedent for other provinces

Probable production cuts at aluminium smelters in China’s largest production hub of Shandong province set a precedent for other regions in the country, market observers said.

Smelters in Shandong who were invited by the MIIT late in June to discuss key issues in the industry, are believed this week to be closing some capacity that does not meet government standards, including 1.4 million tpy at Weiqiao and 500,000 tpy at Xinfa Group.
