BHP’s Australia iron ore output breaks record in FY17, FY18 target lifted

BHP reported all-time high output at its 85%-owned Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) operations in the financial year 2017 ended June 30, and has raised its guidance for the current financial year.

WAIO produced 268 million tonnes of iron ore on a 100% basis in the year ended June, up 4% from 257 million tonnes in the preceding twelve-month period, the miner said in its production update on Wednesday July 19.
In line with its previous target of 268-272 million tonnes, the record production reflects productivity improvements across the supply chain, as well as the commissioning of a new primary crusher and additional conveying capacity at the Jimblebar mine, according to the report.

BHP expects a 3-4% increase in WAIO output...
