S11D start-up helps Vale achieve record iron ore output in Q2

Vale’s iron ore production set a record for a second quarter in April-June 2017, at 91.85 million tonnes, the Brazilian miner announced on Thursday July 20.

This represented an increase of 5.80% from last year’s corresponding output of 86.82 million tonnes.
Production levels were positively affected by the ramp-up of Vale’s 90 million-tpy S11D project, in Brazil’s Carajás region, which started up in December 2016, as well as the commissioning of new beneficiation and crushing facilities in the country’s south-eastern system, according to Vale.
