Buyers 'cannot afford' new, higher offers for Taiwan scrap imports

Taiwan’s import prices for containerised HMS-grade ferrous scrap have gone up by $5-10 per tonne, with higher offers being heard, but buyers said they could not afford the new prices.

Prices have been rising in line with the growth in Turkish import scrap prices in recent weeks. Market participants generally expected prices to grow further as demand for Turkish finished steel products at home and abroad has continued to be strong, while billet prices were also increasing.
