Sherritt’s Q2 nickel, cobalt production drops; 2017 guidance revised downwards

Canada-based Sherritt International Corp’s production of finished nickel and cobalt declined year-on-year, according to the miner’s quarterly report.

Finished nickel production declined 8% year-on-year to 7,182 tonnes and cobalt production declined 5% year-on-year to 706 tonnes in the quarter ended June 30, according to the report released on Wednesday July 26. Meanwhile, total nickel production for the first six months of the year stood at 14,839 tonnes, down 10% year-on-year. Total cobalt production for the first six months of the year stood at 1,465 tonnes, down 9% on an annual basis. Sherritt’s Moa operation in Cuba produced 3,739 tonnes of finished nickel on a 50% basis and 436 tonnes of finished cobalt on a 50% basis in the June quarter. In the corresponding period of last year, Sherritt’s Moa operation produced 4,145 tonnes of nickel and 477 tonnes of cobalt....
