CIS export billet prices shoot up as offers rise

Export steel billet prices from the CIS region have moved up sharply over the past several days as mills have increased their offers, Metal Bulletin learnt on Wednesday August 9.

Reduced availability of the material in the region, from Russia in particular, together with rising costs for scrap and for finished long steel products, supported the CIS mills’ price rises.
“Only a few producers are offering [billet] now,” one source said, adding that local mills wanted to use their billet to produce finished long steel for the local market.
