US FeMn, FeMo imports remain robust in June

US inflows of ferro-manganese and ferro-molybdenum maintained a robust pace in June, while ferro-vanadium imports slumped.

Bulk alloys US ferro-silicon imports rebounded during the month of June, yet inflows for the first six months of 2017 remain well behind the pace set the year prior. June’s imports were primarily bolstered by the return of Chinese ferro-silicon to the US market, as inflows from China totalled 2,890 tonnes during the month. Prior to June, Chinese ferro-silicon had been largely absent from the US market, as imports over the first five months of 2017 totalled only 1,812 tonnes. Over that time, the previous monthly high was 773 tonnes in May. In addition to an influx of Chinese ferro-silicon, inflows from Kazakhstan ticked up to 2,385 tonnes in June – their highest volume levels since March – after only 492 tonnes arrived in the USA over the previous two months.
