South America's flat steel market quiet amid surging Chinese offers

The continued surge in Chinese prices once more prevented deals from being closed in the South American flat steel market this week.

“Few deals are being done,” a Brazil-focused steel trader said. A second source concurred, saying that only the Colombian market was active this week, with “a few import consultations being made”. China-origin offers of hot rolled coil (HRC) were heard on South America’s Pacific coast at $575 per tonne cfr, while offers in Brazil were reported at $580-585 per tonne cfr.
