Base metals Sohar Aluminium has put together a team of industry experts to assess how quickly metal production at its Oman smelter can be restarted and for a return to full production levels.  BHP has received funding approval for phase one of a nickel sulphate project to tap into the growing electric vehicle (EV) lithium-ion battery market.  Current projections for growth in electric vehicle (EV) production will have a "major" effect on demand for copper, cobalt and nickel.  The CME’s duty paid aluminium premium contract, which is settled against the Metal Bulletin benchmark, traded in record volumes.
