LIVE FUTURES REPORT 11/08: LME Al price strong; other base metals end week lower

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were mostly lower this afternoon, Friday August 11, with only aluminium seeing gains.

Copper prices closed above $6,400 per tonne despite dipping slightly while aluminium closed $5 higher at $2,042 per tonne, consolidating recent gains. News that operations at Sohar Aluminium were affected buoyed aluminium prices recently, but the company said that it has now put together a team of industry experts to assess how quickly metal production at its Oman smelter can be restarted and for a return to full production levels.  This incident “interrupted normal operations and resulted in no injuries recorded,” the company said.
