Southern European rebar, wire rod prices edge upward on high production costs

Prices for rebar and wire rod edged upward in Southern Europe because of higher production costs, despite reduced buying activity, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday August 30.

Metal Bulletin’s weekly price assessment for rebar in the Southern Europe domestic market was €505-530 ($606-636) per tonne delivered on August 30, up by €10 per tonne week-on-week from €495-520 per tonne delivered.
The assessment reflected prices in Italy and Spain, with the Italian market expected to be fully back to work from summer holidays by September 4, according to market participants.
