Fire breaks out at Bengang BF

The No. 1 blast furnace at Northeast China’s Benxi Iron & Steel (Bengang) caught fire at 10:15am on Friday September 1, although no casualties have been reported so far, according to the official social media account of the steelmaker.

With a volume of 4,747 cubic metres, the No. 1 blast furnace is the biggest one of the four operated by the mill, according to its website.

Producing 9,000-10,000 tonnes of hot metal per day, the furnace will be put under maintenance from now on, which may take as long as half a year, sources...
