ThyssenKrupp board approval for Tata Steel merger ‘possible by end-September’

The board of steelmaker ThyssenKrupp may grant its approval for a merger of its European flat steel operations with those of Tata Steel “by the end of this month”, a spokeswoman for the German company told Metal Bulletin on Monday September 11.

“Talks with Tata are constructive, and negotiations are well under way,” she said.
Tata Steel told Metal Bulletin on Monday that it continues to be engaged in “constructive discussions” with ThyssenKrupp regarding the potential merger.
However, the spokesman sounded a note of caution despite ThyssenKrupp’s optimism. “Until a definitive agreement is reached, there can be no assurances these discussions will result in a transaction,” he said.
