Spot MJP aluminium premiums rise on global sentiment, quarterly benchmark talks

Spot cif main Japanese ports (MJP) aluminium premiums rose 2.3% from a week earlier, as sentiment turned more upbeat on global premiums due to a wide contango in London Metal Exchange spreads, while quarterly MJP benchmark negotiations continued above spot levels.

Metal Bulletin assessed spot cif MJP aluminium premiums at $80-95 per tonne on Tuesday September 12, up from $80-90 per tonne a week ago.  US Midwest premiums were assessed at 8-8.25 cents per lb, up from 7.75- 8 cents per lb the week before.
