UK monthly steel scrap prices extend rally into September

The UK ferrous scrap market for monthly deliveries to consumers in September has settled with price increases mostly around £15-20 per tonne compared with August settlements, trade sources told Metal Bulletin this week.

Trend-indicating grades in the UK such as HMS 1&2 (old steel) and OA (plate & structural) are now priced £195-220 ($259-292) and £215-240 ($285-318) per tonne delivered, respectively. The two markets are now around levels last seen in April 2013 and August 2012, respectively. HMS 1&2 was £203-223 per tonne in April 2013, while OA P&S was £225-240 per tonne in August 2012. HMS 1&2 was at an annual monthly low this year of £100-110 per tonne in February, while OA P&S was at a low of £125-135 per tonne in the same month.
