INTERVIEW: Hanrui Cobalt aims to have third party authentication on its supply chain early next year – president

Hanrui Cobalt is conducting responsible sourcing and aims to have third party authentication on its supply chain by early next year, company president Liang Jiankun told Metal Bulletin.

“Hanrui Cobalt already established an internal supply chain management department in 2015,” Liang said. “Right now we are applying for the membership of Responsible Cobalt Initiative (RCI) established by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for Metals, Minerals & Chemicals (CCCMC) Importers & Exporters, and have asked CCCMC to help us to build up a due diligence system for a responsible supply chain, and after the completion of the system, we will invite a third party to conduct an audit and authentication on it,” he added. In December 2016, CCCMC established the RCI to unite efforts by companies in the cobalt industry supply chain and the government of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to address various problems regarding artisanal mining, including child labour.  “We will speed up the development of the due diligence system for a responsible supply chain with requirements for each member of the RCI to involve due diligence systems...
