US cold finished bar makers urge 'early action' on steel imports probe

The USA’s Cold Finished Steel Bar Institute (CFSBI) has urged President Donald Trump to take “early action” to impose the kind of import barriers allowed by the country’s Section 232 legislation.

The CFSBI is based in Washington and represents cold-finished bar (CF bar) producers and certain hot rolled bar suppliers. It also urged Trump in a statement on Monday September 18 to protect downstream consumers of CF bar when considering any import barriers. “The bottom line is that we need help, and soon,” CFSBI chairman William Geary said. “We respectfully urge that any remedy determined in the Section 232 case apply not only to the cold finished steel bar we produce, but also to downstream component parts made by our customers,” he...
