Auto drives Rio Tinto's North American aluminium expansion plan

Rio Tinto is mulling expansion of its primary aluminium capacity in North America to better serve demand for automotive sheet, a company executive said on September 19.

“We have phases of smelters we’ve built already,” Rio Tinto director of global automotive strategy Jim Dickson said during a presentation at Metal Bulletin sister publication AMM’s Automotive Supply Chain Conference. “Phases two and three are on the table when the investment climate is right.”
