EU domestic HRC prices supported by uncompetitive imports

Domestic prices for hot rolled coil (HRC) in Europe are being supported by lack of competitive offers from overseas, sources told Metal Bulletin this week.

HRC offers from India, elsewhere in Asia and Turkey were said to be unworkable due to both the high prices and the long lead times.
“Domestic mills and buyers are well booked in the fourth quarter. [But] the majority of imports booked now would arrive at the beginning of the next year, [and] it is simply too early to make such deals,” a trader said.
