Asian import slab prices set to fall

Slab import prices in Asia are expected to fall in the coming weeks, following a price drop in China and weakness in raw materials markets, sources told Metal Bulletin on Monday September 25.

“We expect the price [for slab] to go down, but it will also depend on whether customers will still be hungry for billet,” one trader said.
Metal Bulletin’s price assessment for slab imports in Southeast Asia and East Asia widened to $520-540 per tonne cfr on Monday, from $530-535 per tonne a week earlier.
