US Commerce probe could lift stainless bar prices

The US Department of Commerce is investigating whether an anti-dumping order should be reinstated against stainless steel bar imports from Indian producers Venus Group and Viraj Profiles – a decision that could affect domestic stainless bar prices.

The agency has preliminarily determined that Venus Group – including its affiliates Precision Metals, Sieves Manufacturers and Hindustan Inox – and Viraj have sold stainless bar at less than normal value, and should be reinstated in the anti-dumping order against stainless steel bar from India, according to a filing on October 13. The period under review is July 1, 2015, to June 31, 2016. “We will instruct US Customs and Border Protection to suspend liquidation of all entries of [stainless steel] bar produced and/or exported by the respondents and entered, or withdrawn from warehouse, for consumption on or after the date of publication of this notice in the Federal Register,” the...
