Vital confirms expansion in Anhui province after Umicore’s ITO business acquisition

Vital has added a new facility in Anhui province after it acquired Umicore’s large area coating business, the company told Metal Bulletin.

The acquisition also includes the Umicore Vital Thin Film Technologies joint venture, which produces rotary indium tin oxide (ITO).

Vital set-up a joint venture with Umicore in 2014 to meet rising ITO demand from the fast-expanding large area display market in Asia.

“We are excited about this acquisition [because] our current main market is in China. This is a win-win for us, both with China investing more than 500 billion RMB in the next generation of displays and enabling Umicore to focus on mobility and recycling in line with [Umicore’s] 2020 strategic plan,” George Zhu, ceo of Vital Materials...
