Kobe Steel keeps output steady amid government checks

Kobe Steel is maintaining normal production operations at all of its steel plants in the face of inspections ordered by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI), a company spokesman told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday October 25.

Steel output is currently unchanged at its production units, with most mills running normally. The company did not disclose any details about the operating rates of its mills.
“METI has ordered certification bodies to check that all 20 production facilities under the care of Kobe Steel and its subsidiaries comply with Japan Industrial Standards [JIS],” the spokesman said.
