Workers seize Ilva's Cornigliano mill, steel production halted

Steel production was stopped at the Cornigliano facility belonging to Italian steelmaker Ilva when the plant was occupied by some of its workers yesterday, a spokeswoman for the company told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday November 7.

The industrial action is in protest against the proposals put forward by joint venture body AM Investco, which agreed to purchase Ilva earlier this year.
The Cornigliano site in Genoa, northern Italy, has capacity for 1.30 million tpy of cold-rolled coil (CRC) and 2.50 million tpy of hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) material, according to Metal Bulletin’s company database.
