Vedanta plans to build world’s second biggest copper smelter

Vedanta will double smelting capacity at its 400,000 tpy Sterlite Tuticorin smelter in Tamil Nadu, India, by effectively building a replica version next to the present smelter.

The company has approved $717 million to spend on the project, which is expected to be completed by the third quarter of the 2020 financial year.   The expansion will make Sterlite and Vedanta India’s largest copper smelting company...
