RECYCLED ALUMINIUM CONF: India keen to bring aluminium scrap supply closer to home - Metco

India is looking to address the large amounts of aluminium scrap it imports each year by trying to process more material domestically, Metco Marketing India’s managing director Dhawal Shah told delegates at Metal Bulletin’s 25th Recycled Aluminium conference in Warsaw.

The country imports around 800,000 tonnes per year of aluminium scrap, a significant portion of the circa 1.2 million tpy market, Shah said, adding that around 80% is for automotive application.
But with the Indian automotive market expected to continue growing, the country now wants to process more scrap domestically, instead of being reliant, as it is currently, on importing material.
