China’s Oct refined zinc output hits record high while smelters operate near full capacity

China’s monthly refined zinc output reached a historic high in October while smelters were operating close to full capacity to cash in on the zinc price rally, an analyst said.

Zinc production reached 577,000 tonnes in October, compared to 537,000 tonnes a month ago, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday November 16. This surpasses the high level of output produced in November 2014 when the monthly output stood at 562,000 tonnes. China has a total of 611,000 tonnes of zinc smelting capacity as of October, data from local research agency Antaike shows.
