China notifies WTO of impurity thresholds on ferrous, non-ferrous scrap imports

China has told the World Trade Organization (WTO) of its intention to adopt waste thresholds on a number of imported scrap products this week, drawing criticism from recycling industry organizations.

The threshold for impurities allowed in ferrous scrap imports to China will be 0.50%, with the rate for non-ferrous scrap imports set at 1%.
The proposed standards would apply to shipments arriving on or after March 1, 2018, the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) said on Friday November 17.
