INT’L FERRO-ALLOYS CONF: Afarak committed to expanding specialty ferro-chrome products - Lillja

Afarak is focusing on niche ferro-chrome production and diversity of customer base, which has given the Helsinki-based producer confidence in its ability to compete in the global market.

Afarak Group is targeting more speciality ferro-chrome production in order to improve its competitiveness in the global ferro-chrome market, chief commercial officer Michael Lillja told delegates at Metal Bulletin’s 33rd annual International Ferro-alloy conference in Lisbon, Portugal.
“We are working more towards the speciality grades, so we are quite a niche producer of ferro-chrome,” Lillja said.
While several South African ferro-chrome smelters have shuttered or considerably scaled back capacity amid adverse market conditions in recent years, Afarak has been able to withstand the heat as they focus on more quality, speciality ferro-chrome grades.
