Chinese zinc imports up 145% in October vs last year

China imported 61,355 tonnes of refined zinc in October, up 145% on a yearly basis amid supply tightness in the domestic market but down 20.5% from the previous month on the closed arbitrage window, according to the latest customs data.

Domestic supply of refined zinc remains at a low level although Chinese zinc production of 577,000 tonnes in October was an all-time high and up from 537,000 tonnes a month earlier - smelters were operating close to full capacity to cash in on the rally in the zinc price.
